Charges of Drunk Driving and Hit-and-Run Injury under the Special Act
[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] The Gangdong Police Station in Seoul has arrested a man suspected of hitting a police officer while driving under the influence and fleeing the scene.
On the 21st, Shin Hyun-il, the warrant judge at the Seoul Eastern District Court, conducted a pre-arrest detention hearing for a man in his 30s, identified as Mr. A, and issued an arrest warrant citing concerns of flight risk and unstable residence.
Mr. A is accused of driving under the influence and hitting a police officer in his 50s, Mr. B, who was off duty, in Amsa-dong, Gangdong-gu, Seoul, around midnight on the 18th, then fleeing the scene. According to the police investigation, Mr. A's blood alcohol concentration at the time of the incident was at the level warranting license suspension.
The police officer sustained serious injuries to his ribs and other areas but is reported to be in stable condition without life-threatening injuries.
