Participation in Honda LPGA Thailand 2023
Ko Jin-young Returns Despite Wrist Injury
Lydia Ko (New Zealand), who claimed the championship trophy in her first tournament of the year, solidified her position as the world No. 1 in women's golf. Building on this momentum, she will challenge for the top spot for the second consecutive week at the LPGA Tour event held in Thailand.
On the weekly women's golf world rankings announced on the 21st, Lydia Ko maintained her No. 1 position with a rating of 8.60 points. The gap between her and No. 2 Nelly Korda (USA, 7.09 points) widened from 0.46 points the previous week to 1.51 points. This result reflects her victory at the Aramco Saudi Ladies International (total prize money $5 million) on the Ladies European Tour (LET), which concluded on the 19th.
Lydia Ko, who won the first tournament she entered after her marriage last December, will compete in the Honda LPGA Thailand 2023 (total prize money $1.7 million) held over four days starting on the 23rd at the Siam Country Club Old Course (par 72) near Pattaya, Thailand. This is the second event of the LPGA Tour season. Top-ranked players including Lydia Ko, Nelly Korda, Minjee Lee (Australia, 3rd), Atthaya Thitikul (Thailand, 4th), and Brooke Henderson (Canada, 6th) will all participate. Ko Jin-young (28, 5th), who had been absent due to a wrist injury, will also make her return to competition after three months since the CME Group Tour Championship last November.
Along with Ko Jin-young, many Korean players are listed in the entry roster. The twelve players include Kim Hyo-joo (28), Jeon In-ji (29), Kim A-rim (28), Ji Eun-hee (37), Lee Jeong-eun 6 (27), Shin Ji-eun (31), Choi Hye-jin (24), Kim Se-young (30), Choi Woon-jung (33), Yang Hee-young (34), and An Na-rin (27).
