"I Jun-seok is too unruly... Cheon Ha-ram is just a shadow"
"Arrest motion likely to be rejected... a burden"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Former Supreme Council member Kim Jae-won, who ran for the Supreme Council member position in the People Power Party's party convention, expressed doubts about whether the so-called 'Lee Jun-seok faction's' advances would translate into actual votes, saying, "It looks like Lee Jun-seok (former leader) is presenting the other four members as a kind of display items and selling them."
On the 21st, former Supreme Council member Kim said on KBS's 'Choi Kyung-young's Strong Current Affairs' in response to the host's question about "whether the so-called Lee Jun-seok faction will be included among the Supreme Council members," "What is currently attracting attention and stimulating party members' votes to actually make them vote seem somewhat different."
He evaluated, "Former leader Lee keeps interfering on his own. How party members will view this and whether the current interest will translate into votes or be completely different is still a mystery," adding, "the candidate has become a symbol of former leader Lee."
Regarding the previous day's TV debate results, he said, "I was somewhat puzzled about whether the TV debate itself was really a debate to elect the party leader within the party," and added, "Now the candidate is not Cheon Ha-ram but Lee Jun-seok, so no matter what Cheon does, he keeps making me think that Cheon is just a shadow. That is the problem Cheon needs to overcome."
He continued, "Cheon continuously wants to show that he is 'someone who has overcome Lee Jun-seok and is better than Lee Jun-seok,' but since former leader Lee is more active," he said, "I apologize for saying 'more active,' but since he is taking a more prominent role, Cheon's image is not well seen."
Regarding whether the arrest motion for Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, will be rejected, he said, "It will naturally be rejected," but also pointed out, "However, the North Korea remittance case is currently under investigation. If a detention warrant is requested in connection with that case, Democratic Party lawmakers will face considerable difficulties."
He pointed out that while it will be rejected once, if arrest motions continue to be submitted, there will be pressure to reject them. Former Supreme Council member Kim said, "They rejected it once because he is the party leader, but if they continue to embrace and reject it, more people will argue that 'the party will be abandoned by the people,'" adding, "It is not a good thing for the future because it undermines the constitution and ruins politics."
