[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province is launching a special audit on the safety management of children's playground facilities.
On the 21st, Gyeonggi Province announced that it will conduct a special audit on the safety management of children's playground facilities targeting 31 cities and counties within the province together with citizen auditors until the 10th of next month.
The number of safety accidents occurring at children's playground facilities in the province has been increasing every year, with 94 accidents reported last year, the highest nationwide. In particular, with the adjustment of the mask-wearing mandate starting January 30, children's play activities are expected to increase significantly, raising concerns about potential accidents.
For this audit, the province analyzed data from 3,836 publicly managed children's playground facilities registered in the children's playground safety management system and selected 150 facilities as preliminary audit targets. These include urban parks, museums, natural recreation forests, daycare centers, campsites, child welfare facilities, and playground service businesses with a history of safety accidents.
Prior to this special audit, all audit personnel, including citizen auditors, completed specialized training conducted by professional organizations on laws related to children's playground safety management, on-site inspections, and guidance inspection methods, which is expected to enhance the quality of the special audit.
Choi Eun-soon, the provincial auditor, emphasized, "Recently, we announced Audit 4.0 to break away from traditional practices and realize an audit system involving residents. Through the expansion of special audits involving citizen auditors, one of the policy tasks of Audit 4.0, we will do our best to create a safe Gyeonggi Province."
