Hapcheon-gun Discusses Tourism Development Plans for Hapcheon Meteorite Impact Crater

Kick-off Meeting for Basic Plan Service Held

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Hapcheon-gun, Gyeongnam announced on the 21st that it held a kickoff meeting for the "Basic Plan Establishment and Feasibility Study for the Creation of Hapcheon Meteorite Impact Crater World Geology Theme Park."

At the meeting, attended by the county governor, deputy governor, heads of departments, and representatives of the research service company, an overview of the task, execution direction, and key review items such as plan establishment were reported, followed by in-depth discussions on ways to utilize the Hapcheon meteorite impact crater as a tourism resource.

Gyeongnam Hapcheon-gun is holding a kickoff meeting for the basic plan service project of the meteorite impact crater.

County Governor Kim Yoon-cheol said, "The Hapcheon meteorite impact crater, the first proven in the Korean Peninsula, will become a global tourism resource beyond Hapcheon," adding, "I hope this basic plan will create a blueprint for the future tourism industry of Hapcheon-gun."

The county is conducting a research service with the Gyeongnam Research Institute to create a world-class themed tourist destination utilizing the Hapcheon meteorite impact crater, the first discovered on the Korean Peninsula. By October, they plan to derive an appropriate basic concept and plan based on environmental analysis of the region and similar cases, investigate the feasibility accordingly, and secure the justification for the project.
