Underpass to Gwangandaegyo Bridge, Expected Travel Time 20 Minutes
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] The Busan City Construction Headquarters announced that on the 20th at 3 PM, the opening ceremony of the 'Jangpyeong Underpass,' connecting Eulsukdo Bridge to Jangnim Hill, was held at the entrance of the underpass (towards Eulsukdo Bridge), and it will open from 7 PM.
The opening ceremony was attended by about 300 people, including Mayor Park Hyung-jun, city council members, members of the National Assembly, the Saha District Mayor, and local residents. The event included a construction progress report, commemorative speeches, guest congratulatory speeches, a commemorative ceremony, and a city ritual in sequence.
The Jangpyeong Underpass is an underpass with a length of 2,000 meters (1,410 meters of underpass and 590 meters of tunnel), connecting Sinpyeong-dong and Gupyeong-dong in Saha District, with four lanes for two-way traffic. Including 310 meters of surface road maintenance, the total length is 2,310 meters, with a total project cost of 252.6 billion KRW (national funds 96.6 billion KRW, city funds 156 billion KRW) invested.
The city completed the basic and detailed design services from May 2014 to December 2015, started construction in December 2016, and opened the underpass in February this year.
The opening of the Jangpyeong Underpass marks the completion of the last section of the port hinterland road directly connected to the Cheonmasan Tunnel, and it is expected to take about 20 minutes without traffic signals from the Jangpyeong Underpass to Gwangandaegyo Bridge.
Busan Mayor Park Hyung-jun said, "The Jangpyeong Underpass is the last connecting section of the internal and external ring roads, and thanks to the active cooperation of citizens despite difficult conditions, the underpass has been opened. We expect that this opening will greatly help not only to alleviate vehicle congestion but also to secure living zones between regions."
The city plans to complete the upper road maintenance and finish the entire construction in the first half of this year. The road construction project between Eulsukdo Bridge and Jangnim Hill was confirmed as an improvement project for congested roads in metropolitan areas by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport in January 2012, with a cost-benefit ratio (B/C) of 1.12, securing economic feasibility.
