LG U+ Establishes Smart Safety System at Korea's No.1 Environmental Waste Treatment Plant

[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] LG Uplus announced on the 20th that it will strengthen the safety of on-site workers by supplying smart safety solutions to the workplace of the domestic comprehensive environmental company 'Ecobit'.

Ecobit specializes in waste incineration and landfill, as well as wastewater and waste battery treatment, operating four business divisions (Energy BU, Green BU, Water BU, Future BU).

As the first step of their collaborative project, the two companies established a smart safety system at Ecobit's Energy BU site located in Gyeongju, Gyeongsangbuk-do, and decided to supply IoT sensor-based smart safety gear developed by LG Uplus to minimize serious accidents to workers performing high-altitude tasks. The smart safety gear is a solution jointly developed by LG Uplus and Hyundai Elevator since January last year, consisting of three types of IoT sensors (safety helmet, safety hook, safety belt), beacon sensors, a worker-exclusive app, and a control platform.

LG Uplus plans to additionally develop and supply video safety solutions that can detect and prevent safety risks in various Ecobit work sites such as forklifts, loading and unloading, and industrial waste treatment, thereby expanding its portfolio of industrial safety-related products. The video safety solutions include six types: ▲forklift collision prevention ▲driver behavior analysis ▲body cam ▲object recognition ▲safety helmet detection ▲thermal imaging camera.

The two companies plan to start introducing the solution at the medical waste incineration plant in Gyeongju and expand it to all 11 incineration plants of Ecobit's Energy BU within the first half of this year.
