[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province is publicly recruiting 12 villages to participate in the 'Gyeonggi-do Resource Circulation Village Creation' project until the 8th of next month. Selected villages will receive project support funds ranging from 25 million to 40 million KRW.
The Gyeonggi-do Resource Circulation Village Creation project, which started in 2012, aims to reduce waste through the reuse of waste resources, change residents' awareness, promote resource circulation as a lifestyle, and establish a resource circulation system.
This year, the province plans to expand the project target from traditional village communities to commercial districts and industrial complexes, and focus on enhancing sustainability by building governance with city/county offices, related organizations, companies, and experts.
The project is divided into two parts: establishing resource circulation hubs and revitalizing resource circulation villages.
The resource circulation hub establishment project aims to create comprehensive village spaces for resource circulation, including village separation collection hubs, refill stores (zero-waste shops), education, and campaigns. Six villages (4 new, 2 continuous) with secured hub spaces and resident-led operation will be selected and supported with up to 40 million KRW.
The resource circulation village revitalization project targets resident communities and organizations, selecting six villages and providing up to 25 million KRW in support.
Applicants must be resident communities of 10 or more people living in urban, rural, commercial, or industrial complex areas within the province, or civic/social organizations and institutions.
From March, the province will conduct educational activities such as lectures and campaigns to improve resource circulation awareness, resource circulation practice activities like recycling separation bins, upcycling, sharing markets, and energy-saving education, practice, and promotion for the selected villages.
Applications are accepted from the 20th of this month until the 8th of next month.
Kim Kyung-seop, head of the Resource Circulation Division of the province, stated, "On the 24th, we plan to hold a project briefing session at the Gyeonggi Creative Economy Innovation Center's main conference room for Gyeonggi residents and city/county officials to help participants understand the project."
