[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Six hospitals under the Gyeonggi Provincial Medical Center will introduce the 'Smart Hospital System' this year.
A smart hospital refers to a hospital that applies Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to medical care. Utilizing ICT, it aims to manage individual health conditions without restrictions of time and place and provide customized medical services when necessary. Its advantages include low cost, high accessibility, and guaranteed safety.
Gyeonggi Province announced on the 20th that it plans to use the 2.6 billion KRW in national and provincial funds secured last year through the Ministry of Health and Welfare's Korean New Deal project for smart hospital pilot model support to promote this project this year.
The province will implement four projects at six hospitals of the Gyeonggi Provincial Medical Center: ▲establishing a smart diagnostic support system using 4th industrial revolution technologies such as artificial intelligence ▲setting up a non-face-to-face collaborative treatment system and integrated control system ▲building a mobile automatic payment system and inventory management system ▲automating medical and nursing tasks and establishing an automatic monitoring system.
Specifically, Gyeonggi Medical Center's Icheon, Anseong, and Pocheon hospitals will establish a non-face-to-face collaborative treatment system with Bundang Seoul National University Hospital and others to secure the quality of critical care and reduce disparities in medical quality. Suwon, Paju, and Uijeongbu hospitals will enhance treatment safety and effectiveness and reduce patient waiting times by introducing artificial intelligence diagnostic support systems and mobile automatic payment systems, thereby improving medical services for residents.
The artificial intelligence diagnostic support system assists in interpreting images that are difficult to confirm with the naked eye, such as computed tomography (CT) scans and biopsy microscope images. It has the advantage of reducing gaps in medical services caused by shortages of medical personnel in departments like radiology.
Shin Hyung-jin, Director of the Public Medical Division of the province, emphasized, "Through the establishment of smart hospitals at the Gyeonggi Provincial Medical Center, we will strengthen the competitiveness of the center and improve the quality of public medical services," adding, "We will actively support becoming a public hospital where patients and medical staff communicate at the patient's level by utilizing ICT."
