According to the city on the 20th, on the 16th, the Gangwon Provincial Council finalized the partial amendment of the 'Gangwon Province Trade Port International Route Revitalization Support Ordinance,' which will include all trade ports in the province, including Okgye Port, as targets for provincial financial support.
Once the amended ordinance is promulgated, the scope of trade ports eligible for local government financial support in Gangwon Province will expand from the existing Donghae, Mukho, and Sokcho Ports to include all locally managed and nationally managed trade ports within the province, including Okgye Port.
Taking this opportunity, the city plans to promptly enact the tentative 'Gangneung City Trade Port International Route Revitalization Support Ordinance' through close consultations with Gangwon Province (East Sea Rim Headquarters) and the Gangneung City Council.
Additionally, the city will accelerate attracting cargo owners, international logistics forwarding companies, maritime transport companies, port stevedoring companies, and other related businesses that will generate container import and export logistics using Okgye Port to increase cargo volume.
A city official stated, "Following the enactment of the Gangwon Province ordinance, we will thoroughly prepare to develop Okgye Port into a national complex logistics hub port in the East Sea Rim region through the city ordinance enactment," adding, "We expect that the expansion of port functions will lead to reduced logistics costs for companies, creation of numerous jobs, population growth, and ultimately revitalization of the local economy."
