Jinju City Appoints 11 Members to Infectious Disease Control Committee

Establishment of Infectious Disease Response Crisis Management Measures

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Jinju City in Gyeongnam announced on the 20th that it held the ‘Jinju City Infectious Disease Management Committee Member Appointment Ceremony’ and meeting at the city hall situation room.


The Jinju City Infectious Disease Management Committee was formed according to the ‘Jinju City Ordinance on the Prevention and Management of Infectious Diseases’ and consists of 4 ex officio members and 11 appointed members, including city council members, professors and experts in infectious disease-related fields, and individuals with extensive knowledge and experience in infectious diseases.

Jinju Mayor Cho Gyu-il presented appointment certificates to the 11 appointed members, excluding the ex officio members. The committee members will play roles such as establishing and implementing plans for the prevention and management of infectious diseases over the next two years, formulating infectious disease crisis management measures, forming public-private cooperation groups for infectious disease response to share information and discuss roles among institutions during infectious disease outbreaks, and sharing and advising on key matters related to infectious disease response in real time.


At this appointment ceremony, Kim Yeon-jeong, Head of the Infectious Disease Response Division at the Gyeongnam Regional Disease Control Center, gave a special lecture that enhanced understanding of the role of local governments during the resurgence of infectious diseases or the outbreak of new infectious diseases.


A city official stated, “We expect that the operation of the Infectious Disease Management Committee will promote the establishment of infectious disease crisis management measures and the construction of a public-private cooperation system for infectious disease response more effectively,” and added, “We will do our best to maintain and improve the health of Jinju citizens by collecting various opinions proposed by the committee in the future.”
