Incheon City Conducts Tests for 450 Types of Residual Pesticides and Heavy Metals in Online Distributed Agricultural Products

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Incheon City announced on the 19th that it will strengthen safety inspections of agricultural products distributed online this year.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, online distribution of agricultural products has increased due to non-face-to-face transactions and changes in the agricultural product distribution structure. In response to changing food market trends, the city has decided to conduct proactive and preemptive inspections.

Accordingly, the Incheon Health and Environment Research Institute plans to independently collect online-distributed agricultural products from large distribution companies, home shopping, dawn delivery, and online shopping malls to conduct safety inspections for 450 types of residual pesticides, heavy metals, and other substances.

After completing the inspections, agricultural products that exceed the allowable standards will be blocked from distribution and the products will be disposed of. Additionally, the institute will disclose the results through its website to provide citizens with information on safe agricultural products.

Kwon Moonju, Director of the Incheon Health and Environment Research Institute, stated, "We are making multifaceted efforts to meet citizens' expectations for safe agricultural products," adding, "In particular, by thoroughly managing safety blind spots, we will contribute to the distribution of trustworthy agricultural products."
