[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Su-yeon] LG Uplus announced that starting from the 20th, it will begin offering free USIM replacement for customers whose personal information has been leaked. This is part of the ‘Cyber Safety Innovation Plan’ announced on the 16th to strengthen customer personal information protection.
Customers affected can visit the nearest LG Uplus store and receive a free mobile USIM replacement by simply presenting their ID. Those who have been notified of the leak can receive support immediately from the 20th, and customers whose personal information was not leaked can also replace their USIM at stores by applying through the website starting March 1.
Notified MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator) customers can also replace their USIM at Altteul Phone Plus stores starting from the 20th. Initially, support will be available at six stores nationwide, including Seoul Hapjeong Branch, Seoul Dongdaemun Branch, Incheon Jakjeon Branch, Daejeon Munhwa Branch, Gwangju Donggwangju Branch, and Busan Seobusan Branch, as well as the newly opening Daegu Sangin Branch and Bundang Yatap Branch in early March. Customers living far from these stores can receive their USIM by courier after applying through the website starting March 1.
An LG Uplus official explained, “Although it is difficult for third parties to clone USIMs, we decided to support free USIM replacement for all customers to alleviate any potential concerns. In addition, we are currently enhancing monitoring and developing and applying functions to detect and block SIM swapping at the network access stage.”
LG Uplus is currently handling inquiries and consultations related to information leaks through its existing Customer Center and Customer Information Protection Center. Furthermore, on the 16th, it opened a ‘Damage Support Center’ for small business owners and PC caf? customers affected by the DDoS attack. Damage reports can be submitted via phone, and applications are available 24/7 on the website. Individual customers who experienced internet connection errors will receive sequential support later without a separate application process.
Meanwhile, starting from the 27th, LG Uplus will also support the ‘U+ Spam Call Alert’ app service for all customers. Further details will be announced later.
