[Asia Economy Reporter Yu Je-hoon] The delegation of the U.S. House of Representatives' "Special Committee on Strategic Competition between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party" is set to visit Taiwan, Taiwan Central News Agency reported on the 18th (local time), citing Bloomberg News.

According to the report, the delegation led by Democratic Representative Ro Khanna plans to visit Taiwan and meet consecutively with President Tsai Ing-wen and TSMC founder Chang Chung-mou. Representative Khanna stated in a U.S. interview, "The main focus is on the economic sector," adding, "We aim to attract semiconductors, manufacturing, and more."

This delegation's visit to Taiwan is scheduled amid the recent postponement of U.S. Secretary of State Tony Blinken's visit to China due to controversy over a Chinese reconnaissance balloon entering U.S. airspace. Representative Khanna commented, "Since this was planned in advance, canceling it could be interpreted as sending the wrong message."

The Central News Agency anticipated that visits by U.S. congressional officials to Taiwan will continue following this delegation's visit. A House delegation led by Michael McCaul, Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee (Republican), visited this spring, and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (Republican) has expressed his intention to visit Taiwan next year.
