Launch of Dongdaemun-gu Fashion Sewing Industry Development Council

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] The Dongdaemun-gu Fashion Sewing Industry Development Council officially launched on the 17th with a commemorative event held at the auditorium on the 3rd floor of the Oriental Medicine Promotion Center.

To assist sewing companies struggling with rising rent and increased production costs and to enhance industrial competitiveness, two local fashion sewing federations and two cooperatives joined hands to form the Fashion Sewing Industry Development Council, electing Song Pyeong-ui as its inaugural chairman.

The garment sewing industry accounts for about 40% of local manufacturing, with approximately 1,700 sewing companies operating in Dongdaemun-gu. The district plans to support the revitalization of the fashion sewing industry through various initiatives such as establishing the 'Fashion Sewing Complex Support Center (Yongdu-dong)', 'Work Environment Improvement Projects', 'Operation of Shared Cutting Rooms', and 'Practical Sewing Training'.

Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, stated, “Dongdaemun-gu will continuously communicate with the Fashion Sewing Industry Development Council to discover and implement effective policies for the development of the sewing industry. We will strengthen systematic support for the sewing industry, including collaboration with designers and support for overseas market expansion, focusing our capabilities on creating a sewing industry cluster centered around the Fashion Sewing Industry Development Council to make Dongdaemun-gu the 'Milan of Korea.'” He expressed his determination to revive the fashion sewing industry.
