Establishing Plans to Expand Resident Population and Prevent Local Extinction
[Gokseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Cha Jong-seon] Gokseong-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Lee Sang-cheol) announced that, with the enforcement of the 'Special Act on Support for Population Declining Areas' from January 1, 2023, it is actively responding to local extinction due to population decline and promoting population vitality.
On February 16, the county held a kickoff meeting for the establishment of a five-year basic plan to respond to population decline at the county office, attended by about 50 people including Governor Lee Sang-cheol, heads of departments, the county council chairman, council members, policy advisory committee members, the president of the youth association, and cooperative representatives.

Through this research project, Gokseong-gun plans to establish a five-year basic plan and annual implementation plans to respond to population decline.
The main contents of the project include ▲setting the basic concept, strategy, vision, and goals for responding to population decline through analysis of regional and population conditions ▲discovering and presenting detailed projects for short- and long-term policy tasks to be prioritized according to the strategy ▲calculating necessary resources for the basic implementation plan and securing plans by year ▲discovering effective customized projects for the county utilizing special provisions.
The research institution will proceed with the planning task by May, going through procedures such as analyzing current population and regional conditions and collecting opinions from residents and experts.
Governor Lee Sang-cheol said, “Starting with this project, we will establish a policy system and direction that effectively respond to population decline along with the local extinction response fund, and do our best to revitalize the local population through strategic project discovery tailored to Gokseong-gun.”
