[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Dong-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 17th that all public officials are making an all-out effort to raise awareness of the seriousness of water shortage problems due to drought in the Gwangju and Jeonnam regions and to overcome the crisis.
On the 15th and 16th, about 60 public officials belonging to Dong-gu Office visited Dongbok Dam to experience the severity of the drought firsthand. At the same time, households joined in practicing water-saving measures in daily life, such as adjusting the water pressure of meters, placing bricks in toilets, adjusting sink valves, and using cups for brushing teeth.
A public official who participated in the tour said, “Seeing the severe reservoir level of Dongbok Dam with my own eyes made me realize that water supply restrictions are becoming a reality. Public officials should take the lead in actively participating in water-saving campaigns in daily life and widely inform residents.”
Im Taek, head of Dong-gu Office, said, “If water usage does not decrease, water supply restrictions in the first half of this year are inevitable, and the worst-case scenario could lead to water outages. It is necessary for all Gwangju citizens to minimize water use in their daily lives.”
