Export Quarantine Training Conducted for 7,000 Farmers and Producer Groups

Regular Hosting of 'Export Stakeholders Meeting' Planned in the Future

[Asia Economy Sejong=Reporter Joo Sang-don] The Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency announced on the 19th that from this month until December, it plans to conduct export quarantine education for about 7,000 export stakeholders, including export farmers and producer organizations, in cooperation with related export institutions such as the Rural Development Administration and the National Agricultural Products Quality Management Service to expand fresh agricultural product exports in 2023.

The education is necessary because recent export destination countries have been continuously demanding compliance with import quarantine requirements by strengthening standards for food safety and hygiene, making it essential to raise awareness among export farms from the early stages of production regarding pest control and quality management.

Each export-related institution will provide education on the following: ▲ The Quarantine Agency will cover compliance with plant quarantine requirements demanded by agricultural product export destination countries ▲ The Rural Development Administration will provide export country-customized cultivation techniques ▲ The National Agricultural Products Quality Management Service will educate on the safety of export agricultural products.

The Quarantine Agency expects this education to serve as an opportunity for export stakeholders to understand the government's export policy support directions and to suggest field difficulties. The agency also plans to hold regular meetings with export farmers and producer organizations.

Additionally, to expand agricultural product exports, the Quarantine Agency will expand export quarantine negotiations, strengthen the operation and management of export quarantine complexes, and actively support export quarantine by distributing surveillance and control record books that include pest control capabilities and pesticide safety usage guidelines to help export farms easily manage fresh agricultural products.

Kim Myung-soo, head of the Plant Quarantine Department at the Quarantine Agency, said, "We will continue to provide customized export specialized education for export stakeholders such as export farms and producer organizations to manage export agricultural products effectively according to the diversified import quarantine requirements of each country, striving to expand the export of our agricultural products."
