Increase in Seoyeongo Regular Admission Registration Withdrawal → Higher Chance of Admission to In-Seoul Universities through Supplementary Admissions
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] The additional application period, the last chance for the 2023 academic year college entrance exam, will be held on the 20th. Additional recruitment is conducted during a separate period when vacancies occur after unregistered replenishment. Although the number of universities conducting it and the number of recruits are not large, it is noteworthy because it provides an additional opportunity to apply beyond the 6 early admissions and 3 regular admissions. Together with Etoos Education Evaluation Research Institute, we looked into what you need to know about additional recruitment.
The Last Chance for 2023 College Entrance... Quick Strategy Formation is Important
Last year, despite a decrease of 4,919 compared to the record-breaking additional recruitment in the 2021 academic year, 21,210 students (based on 160 four-year universities) were selected through additional recruitment. Additional recruitment was conducted at 24 universities located in Seoul, including 9 regional national universities, as well as universities such as △Kwangwoon University (4 students) △Kookmin University (7 students) △Dongguk University (20 students) △University of Seoul (6 students) △Sejong University (12 students) △Sookmyung Women's University (10 students) △Soongsil University (16 students) △Hanyang University (7 students) △Hongik University (15 students), based on the general admission criteria focused on the CSAT.
In the medical and pharmaceutical fields, including the Department of Veterinary Medicine, 21 students were selected through additional recruitment based on the general admission criteria. Among them, the number in the medical field drastically decreased from 22 to 9 compared to the previous year, which seems to be largely influenced by the transition to undergraduate selection for pharmacy schools starting from the 2022 academic year.
A large-scale additional recruitment is also expected in the 2023 academic year. Due to the decrease in the school-age population and the concentration in the metropolitan area, many universities, especially local universities, failed to fill their regular admission quotas. In addition, a large number of successful applicants who gave up registration at major Seoul universities such as Korea University and Yonsei University are expected to increase the number of additional recruitment spots. This year, 1,064 successful applicants gave up registration at Korea University and Yonsei University, approaching last year's final number of 1,099.
As additional successful candidates surge mainly at major Seoul universities, vacancies due to unregistered successful candidates are also expected to increase. However, since the universities conducting additional recruitment, the admission types, recruitment units, and recruitment scale vary every year, it is essential to check the additional recruitment announcements released after the 20th.

Many Selections Based on ‘100% CSAT’... Carefully Check Eligibility
Additional recruitment is mostly conducted by universities through CSAT-focused admission types with ‘100% CSAT’ scores, similar to regular admissions. However, some universities apply student record-based admissions, comprehensive student record admissions, or practical skill admissions, so it is necessary to carefully review each university’s additional recruitment notices.
There is no limit on the number of times you can apply for additional recruitment, but it is important to carefully verify eligibility. You can only apply if you have not been accepted or registered in early admissions, or if you have given up registration by the deadline for unregistered replenishment registration in regular admissions, excluding junior colleges and industrial universities. In particular, it should be noted that those who were initially accepted or accepted through replenishment in early admissions cannot apply regardless of registration status, simply because they were accepted.
More Popular University Departments Have Higher Competition Rates
The 2023 additional recruitment will be held from the 20th to the 28th. Unlike early and regular admissions, the processes from application submission to screening, announcement of successful candidates, and registration occur within a short period, so students applying for additional recruitment should prepare in advance by quickly checking information and forming strategies.
Detailed information about the 2023 additional recruitment can be found on the college entrance information portal ‘Eodiga’ website after the 19th. Since the universities conducting additional recruitment and the number of recruits may change frequently during the recruitment period, it is also essential to check related announcements on each university’s admissions office website.
Kim Byung-jin, head of Etoos Education Evaluation Research Institute, advised, “Since the additional recruitment strategy is not much different from regular admissions, it is good to re-examine what the problems were in regular admissions and select about 3 to 4 universities. Additional recruitment has a small number of recruits and very high competition rates, so it should be considered that the closer to the metropolitan area, the higher the admission results tend to be.”
