Acting Chairman of the Federation of Korean Industries Kim Byung-joon, Former Liberty Korea Party Emergency Committee Chairman, Emerges as a Strong Candidate

Candidate Recommendation Chairman Lee Woong-yeol Reports to Chairman Huh Chang-soo
Plan to Serve as Acting Authority for a Certain Period

[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chae-seok] The Federation of Korean Industries (FKI) is reportedly recommending Kim Byung-joon, chairman of the Community Chest of Korea, as the acting president for the next FKI chairman.

According to reports from the business and political sectors, Lee Woong-yeol, honorary chairman of Kolon and chairman of the FKI chairman candidate recommendation committee, recommended Kim as the acting chairman to current chairman Huh Chang-soo on the 16th.

The FKI must appoint the next chairman at the general meeting on the 23rd, as Chairman Huh has expressed his intention to resign.

Honorary Chairman Lee reportedly decided to have Kim serve as acting chairman because no suitable candidate from the business community had emerged. Kim is expected to lead the FKI for about three months while overseeing the process of selecting the next chairman.

Kim previously served as the Chief of Policy Office at the Blue House during the Roh Moo-hyun administration, chairman of the Presidential Advisory Policy Planning Committee, and presidential policy advisor. He also served as the emergency committee chairman of the Liberty Korea Party from 2018 to 2019.

He was the permanent election committee chairman for Yoon Seok-youl’s People Power Party presidential campaign in the last election. After Yoon’s victory, Kim served as chairman of the Special Committee on Regional Balanced Development at the Presidential Transition Committee.
