[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] UNIST held the 2023 academic year entrance ceremony at 2 p.m. on the 17th in the indoor gymnasium. At the ceremony, a total of 443 science and technology talents marked a new beginning.
The 2023 freshmen consist of 413 students in the science and engineering fields and 30 in the business administration field. UNIST recorded a high competition rate of 14.44 to 1 in early admissions and 54.1 to 1 in regular admissions this year.
As a pre-ceremony event, UNIST’s cheering club UNICH performed, followed by a congratulatory performance by the orchestra club UNISTARA.
The main event was composed of the academic procession entrance, 2023 academic year entrance report, freshmen oath, president’s entrance address, and solo performances of the congratulatory song and school anthem. After the introduction of attendees and the entrance report, the freshmen representatives took the oath. The freshmen oath was led by students Park Jun-hyeok and Hong Won-young as representatives.
Following this, President Lee Yong-hoon said in his entrance address, “UNIST dreams of rapidly advancing into the world’s top 100 universities. I ask all freshmen to join us in this dream,” adding, “The development of each individual here is the leap of UNIST, and I hope all of you will dream together with UNIST and face a future where you realize that dream.”
UNIST operates various programs centered on the slogan “Learning by Doing,” encouraging students to actively participate in cutting-edge research from the undergraduate level.
Through the BTS (Brain to Society) program, UNIST supports students in tackling various global societal issues, and provides an enjoyable and free research environment through research clubs such as the AICP and UIRP programs.
Additionally, the ‘One-day Lecture Series’ program allows first-year students to engage with the latest topics in science and technology.
The entrance ceremony concluded with a solo performance of the school anthem by a vocalist, and after the event, an introduction and Q&A session about overall school life was held for the parents of the freshmen.
Recently, UNIST has renovated dormitories and opened a hospital and pharmacy on campus to improve the campus living environment.
They also established a book caf? to provide additional resting spaces for members and are striving to offer delicious food at affordable prices.
On weekends, the ‘Cheongchun Bus,’ a tour bus around Ulsan and nearby areas, operates to help students relieve stress from studying and refresh their minds.
