Conditional Reconstruction Following Detailed Safety Inspection Results
Project Confirmed Due to Government Regulation Easing
Low Floor Area Ratio Expected to Yield Over 10,000 New Households
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim On-yu] The Olympic Athlete and Press Village Apartments in Songpa-gu, Seoul, completed in 1988, have passed the first hurdle of reconstruction, the safety inspection.
According to the maintenance industry on the 16th, the Olympic Athlete and Press Village Apartments received a conditional reconstruction D grade in the detailed safety inspection conducted by Songpa-gu the day before, confirming the reconstruction. This comes 11 months after receiving a conditional reconstruction judgment in the first detailed safety inspection in March last year.
Under the new safety inspection standards implemented since last month, a D grade requires a public institution's appropriateness review if requested by the local government. Songpa-gu reportedly confirmed the reconstruction immediately without requesting the appropriateness review and notified the results.
The apartments were built to accommodate athletes and journalists participating in the 1988 Seoul Olympics. Located near Dunchon Jugong (Olympic Park Foreon) in Gangdong-gu, it is adjacent to Olympic Park Station on subway lines 5 and 9. With a total of 5,540 households and a low floor area ratio of 137%, the complex is expected to expand to over 10,000 households upon reconstruction.
Meanwhile, the reconstruction promotion team requested architect Woo Gyu-seung, who oversaw the complex design during the Seoul Olympics, to establish the complex layout plan (master plan).
