[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Koo Dae-sun] Gyeongbuk Province announced on the 16th that it has established and officially notified the "Designation and Development Plan of Gumi Indeok District Urban Development Zone."


This project aims to proactively respond to the anticipated housing demand due to the relocation of the Daegu-Gyeongbuk New Airport and the Gumi 5 National Industrial Complex by developing a systematic and planned new town with complete residential, commercial, and educational facilities on 150,305㎡ in Donggok-ri, Sandong-eup, Gumi-si, within a 10 km radius of the Daegu-Gyeongbuk New Airport.

The project will proceed using the land readjustment method according to the demands of landowners within the urban development zone. The land readjustment method involves giving the developed land (readjusted land) to landowners instead of paying compensation.


Gyeongbuk Province received a request from Gumi City to designate the urban development zone and establish the development plan. After thorough internal reviews of surrounding development conditions and housing demand, the final development plan was established following the Urban Planning Committee's review at the end of last year.


In the future, once Gyeongbuk Province designates the project implementer and Gumi City approves the implementation plan according to related procedures, construction can begin within this year.


A Gyeongbuk Province official stated, "This is a project to convert forest and farmland into residential land. After small-scale environmental impact assessments and other procedures, construction is expected to start around the end of this year, with tentative completion planned for 2027."

The newly developed new town will be adjacent to the Gumi 5 Industrial Complex and is expected to be the first private-led housing supply project within a 10 km radius of the Daegu-Gyeongbuk New Airport.


Through the "Gumi Indeok District Urban Development Project" in Sandong-eup, Gumi-si, which is emerging as the optimal hinterland city for the Gumi 5 National Industrial Complex and the Daegu-Gyeongbuk New Airport, approximately 1,000 new housing units will be supplied. This is expected to bring an influx of about 2,500 residents and generate an investment effect of over 340 billion KRW, including land development and housing construction costs, greatly contributing to the revitalization of the local construction industry.
