Online Auction of Hanji Cultural Products Created by NewJeans

Proceeds Used to Support Hanji Workshops and Artisans

Online Auction of Hanji Cultural Products Created by NewJeans

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Craft & Design Foundation announced on the 16th that they will sell hanji cultural products created by the K-pop group NewJeans through an online auction. The products include flower hanji lamps and hanji artwork. The former is a lamp made with flower hanji using the traditional Korean manufacturing method called "oebal-tteugi." NewJeans directly produced it and split it in half, using one side themselves. The other half was taken by the members individually. The latter was completed by NewJeans freely throwing bundles of mulberry fiber dyed in their unique colors onto a large canvas. Gu Ji-yeon, a senior officer of the Traditional Life Contents Team at the Korea Craft & Design Foundation, described it as "a lively work with colorful mulberry fiber bundles mixed together." The auction will be held for 24 hours from 3 p.m. on the 18th to 3 p.m. on the 19th. The proceeds will be used to support hanji workshops and artisans, as well as to revitalize the hanji industry. For more details, please refer to the Korea Craft & Design Foundation.
