[Jeju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Jeongpil] An emergency patient in his 40s suffered a finger amputation after his finger got caught in a fishing line on a fishing vessel operating off Jeju Port, Jeju City, and was urgently transported by the Jeju Coast Guard.
According to the Jeju Maritime Police Station on the 16th, a report was received that at 6:41 PM the previous day, on the northeast sea 22 km from Jeju Port, on vessel B (29t/longline/Seogwipo/9 crew members) operating, a left finger was caught and amputated by a fishing line during fishing.

Upon receiving the report, the Jeju Coast Guard dispatched the coastal rescue boat from Jeju Police Substation, arriving at the scene at around 7:30 PM the previous day. After taking over the emergency patient Mr. A and checking his condition, it was confirmed that the left little finger was amputated (sealed in a clean pouch), and the middle and ring fingers were injured and quickly bandaged to stop bleeding.
The patient was transported directly to Jeju Port and handed over to a waiting 119 ambulance at around 7:55 PM.
A Jeju Coast Guard official stated, “This year, a total of six emergency patients have been transported by the Jeju Coast Guard using patrol vessels, and we will take the lead in protecting the lives of the people by promptly transporting emergency patients.”
