Changwon Special City to Develop Urban Environment Focused on Sustainability

Changwon Sustainable Development Council Holds Regular General Meeting

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Song Jong-gu] Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam announced on the 16th that the Sustainable Development Council, which aims to create a sustainable urban environment balancing environment, economy, and society, held its 2023 regular general meeting at the Citizen Hall with 65 committee members in attendance.


The general meeting proceeded in the order of awarding appointment letters to the 7th term committee members with a two-year term, electing co-chairpersons, reporting the 2022 project results and settlement, and reviewing the 2023 project plan and budget.

Changwon Special City to Develop Urban Environment Focused on Sustainability Gyeongnam Changwon Special City announced that it held the 2023 regular general meeting with 65 members of the Sustainable Development Council in attendance.

The Changwon Sustainable Development Council is a public-private cooperative organization established to improve citizens' quality of life and set and implement sustainable development goals. It consists of a total of 88 members, including ex officio members such as the 2nd Vice Mayor, city council members, university professors, corporate executives, and civic group activists.


Council members are responsible for discovering and carrying out citizen practice projects for sustainable goals across city administration, focusing on the environment, welfare, economy, education, establishing action goals, and evaluation.


The detailed organization consists of five subcommittees: Climate and Energy, Education, Corporate Economy, Social and Women, Ecological Environment, and special committees.


Hong Nam-pyo, Mayor of Changwon Special City, said, “Sustainable development is a promise made in the present for the future, and the most fundamental principle is that citizen participation and consensus must be prerequisites. I hope that the Sustainable Development Council will do its best to build cooperative governance through education, promotion, and citizen practice projects.”
