Busan Pukyung Middle and Health High Schools Hold Graduation Ceremony for Late-Blooming Students

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] Busan Saha-gu Bukyung Health High School and its affiliated Bukyung Middle School will hold a graduation ceremony for late-blooming students at 11 a.m. on the 17th at Eunhang Church in Saha-gu.


The ages of the graduates on this day range from their 30s to their 80s. The 169 graduates of Bukyung Middle School will be the 20th graduating class, and the 216 graduates of Bukyung Health High School will be the 21st graduating class.


The students graduating this day have various stories. Lee, a 67-year-old high school graduate, moved to Jinju City, Gyeongnam after enrollment but steadfastly commuted for about two and a half hours.


Also, Yoon, a 38-year-old Vietnamese immigrant woman who graduated from middle school and entered high school, raised her children during the day, attended school at night, and worked part-time in the early morning while studying hard to achieve her dream of becoming a Korean-Vietnamese interpreter.


In addition, various students with diverse stories will receive their diplomas, including Mr. Lee and Mrs. Bae, a couple in their 70s and 80s who studied hard for the past four years and entered university together, and Mr. Cho, who became disabled after falling from a tree as a child but courageously enrolled at nearly 80 years old.

Kwon Young-ho, principal of Bukyung Health High School, said, “Most students have lived for many years for others, not themselves, carrying the regret of not having had the chance to learn.” He added, “I hope this graduation ceremony brings even a little warm comfort to the students.”
