'Promotion of Gyeonggi Northern Special Self-Governing Province'... Gyeonggi-do Strengthens Cooperation with Cities and Counties

[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] Gyeonggi Province has begun to strengthen cooperation in earnest with 31 cities and counties for the establishment of the Gyeonggi Northern Special Self-Governing Province.

On the 16th, Gyeonggi Province announced, "We held a 'Briefing Session on the Basic Plan for the Establishment of the Gyeonggi Northern Special Self-Governing Province' for city and county officials to share cooperation methods and opinions."

On the 15th, Gyeonggi Province held a briefing session on the promotion of the Gyeonggi Northern Special Autonomous Province at the situation room of the Northern Office of the Gyeonggi Provincial Government, attended by public officials from 31 cities and counties.

At the briefing session, the province requested active cooperation from the cities and counties regarding the basic plan for establishing the Gyeonggi Northern Special Self-Governing Province and the research project for establishing its vision and development strategy.

City and county officials presented opinions on the necessity of establishing the Gyeonggi Northern Special Self-Governing Province and suggested that their opinions be actively reflected throughout the entire promotion process.

Earlier this month, the province signed a research service contract with the Gyeonggi Research Institute for the "Vision and Development Strategy for the Establishment of the Gyeonggi Northern Special Self-Governing Province." This year, they plan to hold "visiting public hearings and discussion sessions" in six regions covering the 31 cities and counties to build consensus.

Im Soon-taek, head of the Gyeonggi Northern Special Self-Governing Province Promotion Team, said, "The establishment of the Gyeonggi Northern Special Self-Governing Province will not only contribute to the development of northern Gyeonggi but will also become a driving force for the growth of the Republic of Korea," adding, "We will create ways to coexist through continuous dialogue not only with the northern but also with the southern region cities and counties."
