Cheon Chang-su, Ulsan Education Superintendent Preliminary Candidate, Calls for Citizen Policy Proposals

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] Cheon Chang-su, a preliminary candidate for the Ulsan Superintendent of Education by-election, is soliciting policy proposals from citizens to increase public interest in the superintendent election.

The proposal areas include major education policies such as closing the learning gap, educational welfare, safety, school environment improvement, revitalization of physical education and arts education, and employment activation.

Students can freely submit proposals, including ideas at the conceptual level, even if they are not fully developed policies, regarding inconveniences they experience during school life.

Policy proposals are being accepted via Google Forms from April 14 until April 4, the day before the superintendent by-election voting day. Any Ulsan citizen can participate, and there is no age restriction, allowing students who are not eligible voters to participate as well.

Preliminary candidate Cheon plans to review the feasibility of the policies proposed by citizens and reflect them in his campaign pledges.

Preliminary candidate Cheon said, “Projects essential to students and citizens, such as support for middle and high school students' gym uniforms and the installation of one electric vehicle charging station per school, are examples where citizens' ideas have been incorporated into actual policies,” adding, “Policies discovered and felt firsthand from the students' perspective and the parents' standpoint are highly likely to become good policies that everyone can experience.”

Additionally, preliminary candidate Cheon pledged to regularly hold ‘Policy Proposal Competitions’ involving education stakeholders such as students, parents, and faculty members to gather diverse opinions on Ulsan education and reflect them in policies.

At the campaign pledge announcement press conference, candidate Cheon Chang-su pledged to ▲ establish an integrated customized learning support system to guarantee basic academic skills ▲ resolve overcrowded classes ▲ expand the two-teacher system in middle schools ▲ operate a one-on-one supplementary learning guidance program ▲ install air circulators in gymnasiums and cafeterias.
