Opposition submits disciplinary motion against Assemblyman Taeyoungho: "Resign as Supreme Council candidate"

[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] The Democratic Party of Korea submitted a disciplinary proposal against Tae Young-ho, a member of the People Power Party, on the 15th. They stated that he must be held accountable for his remarks related to the April 3 Incident.

On the same day, Wi Seong-gon, the Democratic Party's senior deputy floor leader from Jeju, along with lawmakers Song Jae-ho and Kim Han-gyu, submitted the disciplinary proposal against Tae to the National Assembly.

After submitting the proposal, Senior Deputy Floor Leader Wi said, "At the party convention, Tae suddenly made a reckless statement claiming that the April 3 Incident was perpetrated by the Kim Il-sung family. Tae has repeatedly made incorrect claims without apologizing and has insulted the victims. We are submitting this disciplinary proposal to clearly hold Tae accountable and demand his official apology and withdrawal from the Supreme Council candidate race."

Earlier, on the 13th, Tae, who visited Jeju the day before to attend the People Power Party’s March 8 party convention joint speech event, stated at the ‘Jeju 4·3 Peace Park,’ a memorial space for the victims of the Jeju April 3 Incident, "The April 3 Incident was clearly a brutal act committed by the Kim Il-sung family," and added, "As someone who defected from the Kim regime, I feel infinite responsibility and kneel before the victims to ask for forgiveness."

Regarding this, Representative Wi said, "There is a serious problem with Tae’s historical awareness," and added, "He must be held responsible for his reckless remarks."

Representative Song said, "Starting from former President Kim Dae-jung, a truth report was issued during former President Roh Moo-hyun’s administration," and added, "It was a mass massacre of civilians by state power. Compensation was decided during former President Moon Jae-in’s administration, and President Yoon Suk-yeol also personally visited Jeju and promised to inherit the nation’s legitimacy and identity."

Representative Kim said, "What is a Supreme Council member that they would politically exploit even the Jeju April 3 Incident?" and added, "Thinking that such reckless remarks will earn votes from People Power Party members is to underestimate the level of the party’s members."
