[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, opened the special lecture series on Dongdaemun with a one-day lecture titled ‘Open Dongdaemun 2050’ for all employees on the afternoon of the 14th.
The ‘Open Dongdaemun 2050’ special lecture was planned to share and practice the core values of the 8th elected local government administration among all Dongdaemun-gu employees. In the first session, Mayor Lee took the role of lecturer and gave a special lecture under the theme ‘Values That Cannot Be Given Up.’
In the lecture, Mayor Lee emphasized that what we need in this era of crisis, marked by the advent of the 4th Industrial Revolution and worsening global economic conditions, is ‘innovation.’ By examining both successful and failed cases of innovation, he presented the future vision of Dongdaemun-gu centered on the district’s indispensable core values: ‘pleasantness,’ ‘safety,’ and ‘transparency.’
He also stated that administration is service, and improving the quality of service is innovation. He urged changing the organizational culture through strategies such as ▲field-centered organization ▲performance-centered projects ▲results-based evaluation ▲competency-based personnel management.
Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, encouraged employees by saying, “Innovation connects the present and future of the organization. The achievements we have made so far, such as the 2050 Future City Project, the declaration of the City of Flowers, and the declaration of a carbon-neutral city, are all part of innovation. If the Dongdaemun-gu office family unites their strength as one, the 2050 future city Dongdaemun will no longer be a dream but a reality.”
The ‘Open Dongdaemun 2050’ special lecture series continues with invitations to distinguished figures to speak on key district projects such as Cheongnyangni development, smart city, carbon-neutral city, understanding the metaverse, and predicting administrative changes. The next lecturer will be Professor Yoo Hyun-jun, famous for ‘Alssulsinjap’ and other works, who will give a lecture on April 5th under the theme ‘The Future of Space: Architecture and Humanities.’
