[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education will expand the operation of the ‘Elementary School Learning Growth Focused Grade System’ to all schools this year.

The Learning Growth Focused Grade System is a key initiative in the ‘2023 Ulsan Education Plan’ that ensures students properly acquire core competencies at the right developmental stages to build a solid foundation. Grades 1?2 focus on early literacy, grades 3?4 on relationships and emotions, and grades 5?6 on creativity.

Since the second semester of last year, Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education has operated the Learning Growth Focused Grade System in 38 classes and confirmed that the program helps students develop essential competencies such as early literacy improvement that must be learned at each grade level.

Along with the Learning Growth Focused Grade System, the Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education held the ‘2023 Ulsan Elementary Curriculum Briefing Session’ on the 14th at the Big Bang Hall of the Ulsan Science Museum to guide all elementary school teachers on the ‘2022 Revised Curriculum.’

This event, also conducted as a non-face-to-face meeting, was held under the theme of ‘Focused Month for Preparing Educational Activities’ and expanded the target audience to all elementary school teachers. Customized lectures were also provided to support the stable operation of the Learning Growth Focused Grade System.

The 2022 Revised Curriculum was amended on December 22 last year and presents common and general standards for school curricula that must be operated in elementary schools.

Grades 1?2 will see support for low-grade Korean literacy acquisition, improvements in safety education, and strengthened physical activities, while grades 3?6 will be able to establish and operate elective subjects or activities tailored to school conditions and student needs.

First graders entering elementary school this year will follow the 2015 Revised Curriculum and will be subject to the 2022 Revised Curriculum when they advance to second grade in the 2024 school year.

The Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education plans to continuously support training on the general theory and subject curricula according to the 2022 Revised Curriculum, as well as teacher research activities related to the Learning Growth Focused Grade System.
