[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] Busan Port Authority (BPA) has begun benchmarking best practices from other institutions such as international airports to strengthen the port security system at Gamcheon Port.
On the 10th, BPA officials visited Gimhae Airport Customs and the Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency to understand the management and operation systems of drug detection dogs and quarantine detection dogs, and also discussed measures to block drug smuggling at the port and ways to cooperate mutually.
The authority stated that the purpose of this visit to resident agencies at Gimhae International Airport was to benchmark excellent airport security systems and to review the possibility of introducing them in the port security sector.
Following the airport, BPA plans to conduct benchmarking at nuclear power plants, correctional facilities, military units, semiconductor and defense industry complexes, and other advanced industrial complexes.
Through this, BPA aims to upgrade the security system at Gamcheon Port to prevent unauthorized departure for illegal entry of foreign seafarers, attempts to smuggle drugs and firearms, and to enable rapid response.
Kim Seong-hoon, head of the Gamcheon Office, said, “Busan Port is a national security facility that combines functions of border control, transportation, security, industry, and quarantine,” adding, “We will actively benchmark advanced technologies and operational systems from other institutions to continuously strengthen port security functions.”
