In 2023 CSAT, Repeat Test Takers Remained Dominant... 60% of Top 1st and 2nd Grade Students Were Graduates

N-Susaeng Especially Strong in Difficultly Set Inquiry and Mathematics Exams

[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] It has been revealed that among the students who received grades 1 and 2 in the 2023 College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT), 3 out of 5 were graduates.

According to JinHakSa on the 13th, an analysis of data from 165,868 students who entered their 2023 CSAT scores (89,293 current students and 76,575 graduates) showed that the proportion of graduates among students who received grades 1 and 2 in all subjects was higher than that of current students.

Although the proportion of current students among the analyzed examinees was higher than that of graduates, more graduates received higher grades.

The subjects with particularly large differences in the ratio between current students and graduates among the top grades (1 and 2) were the inquiry subjects and mathematics. Among the students who received grade 1 in inquiry subjects and mathematics, more than 6 out of 10 were graduates.

The proportion of graduates among grade 1 and grade 2 in the inquiry subjects was 68.0% and 58.3%, respectively. In mathematics, the proportion of graduates exceeded half in grade 1 (62.9%), grade 2 (56.7%), and grade 3 (50.2%).

In Korean, the graduate proportion was higher than that of current students in grade 1 (57.3%), grade 2 (55.1%), and grade 3 (51.7%), and in English, it was higher in grade 1 (54.9%) and grade 2 (50.2%).

The strong performance of 'N-su-saeng' (repeat test takers) especially in the inquiry subjects and mathematics is analyzed to be due to the higher difficulty level of these subjects.

Woo Yeon-cheol, head of the JinHakSa Admission Strategy Research Institute, said, "Inquiry subjects and mathematics were more difficult than in previous years in last year's CSAT," adding, "The more difficult the exam, the more advantageous it is for graduates who invested more time preparing for the CSAT."

However, in the case of English, the difference between current students and graduates in the top grades was not significant. Woo explained, "Since the English subject was conducted on an absolute evaluation basis, the difference between current students and graduates was likely small."
