[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] President Yoon Suk-yeol announced on the 13th that he will "personally oversee the status of the bid for the 2030 Busan International Expo (Expo) in Busan soon."

During his weekly meeting with Prime Minister Han Duck-soo on the same day, President Yoon said, "Since the 2030 Busan Expo is a national event on the scale of the Republic of Korea, all parties including the ruling and opposition parties, public and private sectors, and central and local governments must work as one team with full effort."

Earlier, Prime Minister Han reported to President Yoon, "Regarding the 2030 Busan Expo, a considerable number of countries have not yet decided which country to support, so we are making efforts to secure support on a whole-of-government basis through country-specific tailored strategies."

President Yoon is expected to review comprehensive plans to respond to the on-site inspection by the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE). The BIE will conduct a five-day on-site inspection in Seoul and Busan from April 3 to 7, ahead of the final selection of the host city scheduled for November this year. The evaluation report will be distributed to 171 member countries at the BIE General Assembly in June.

Since his presidential campaign, President Yoon has emphasized the necessity of hosting the 2030 Busan Expo and has actively participated in bid activities immediately after taking office. On May 31 last year, he presided over the launch ceremony of the 2030 Busan Expo Bid Support Private Committee and the bid strategy meeting.

In particular, he has requested support for the Expo bid from foreign leaders during his overseas visits. When President Yoon visited Switzerland last month to attend the World Economic Forum (WEF, Davos Forum), he also engaged in activities to promote the 2030 Busan Expo bid at the 'Korea Night' event hosted by the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
