Simple Planet, a food tech startup researching and developing cell-derived future food ingredients, announced on the 13th that it has entered into a strategic investment agreement with Pulmuone for the commercialization of cultured meat and has now begun joint research on cultured meat in earnest.

Simple Planet recently signed an investment agreement with Pulmuone, stating that it will develop cultured meat that perfectly replicates the texture, flavor, and nutrition of real meat using stem cell technology and alternative fat production technology, and plans to commercialize cultured meat products by 2025.

The two companies plan to conduct research on care food and convenient home meal products based on cell-cultured meat materials that can improve the texture and flavor, which have been limitations of plant-based alternative proteins. They also plan to commercialize hybrid cultured meat with improved texture and flavor by isolating and culturing cell-derived fatty acids combined with commercialized plant-based alternative proteins.

Simple Planet is a food tech startup founded in April 2021 by CEO Jeong Il-du to research and develop cell-derived future food ingredients. CEO Jeong Il-du is an entrepreneurship expert with experience founding and exiting multiple companies, having studied Biotechnology at Boston University (Bachelor's) and Chemical and Biological Engineering at Seoul National University (Ph.D.).

Pulmuone launched the sustainable food brand "Jigu Sikdan" to secure competitiveness in response to the demand for the plant-based alternative meat market and partnered with Simple Planet to actively pursue future food businesses including plant-based alternative meat.

A representative from Simple Planet stated, "We plan to jointly conduct research and development for alternative protein businesses with Pulmuone in the future."
