Mayor Kim reviews the installation status of earthquake accelerometers and emergency response systems including main evacuation routes for passengers

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Kim Tae-woo, Mayor of Gangseo-gu, Seoul, visited Gimpo International Airport operated by Korea Airports Corporation on the afternoon of the 12th with Han Chang-seop, Vice Minister of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, to inspect earthquake preparedness measures.

This was to prepare for disaster situations such as the recent major earthquake that struck the T?rkiye (Turkey) and Syria region.

Mayor Kim received a briefing from officials of Korea Airports Corporation on the current status of earthquake accelerometer installations at Gimpo International Airport, on-site response manuals according to earthquake magnitude, and main evacuation routes for facility users, reviewing the emergency response system in case of an earthquake.

He then checked the earthquake accelerometer management program and the operational status of the earthquake accelerometer installed in the international passenger terminal.

Mayor Kim Tae-woo said, “It is very tragic that more than 20,000 people lost their lives due to the earthquake in the T?rkiye and Syria region. Since natural disasters like earthquakes occur unexpectedly, we will thoroughly prepare for all disaster situations based on close cooperation with related agencies.”

Last year, the district was selected as an excellent institution in the ‘2022 Disaster Response Safety Korea Drill’ evaluation conducted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety to protect citizens’ lives and property from various disasters such as fires and earthquakes. The district is also establishing the Gangseo Safety Education Center (tentative name), which will include 12 safety experience facilities such as earthquake and fire safety.
