In December last year, the Cultural Heritage Administration invited nominations for commendations to discover and spread excellent cases of cooperation in cultural heritage disaster safety work and to boost the pride of those involved in cultural heritage work.
The ‘2023 Cultural Heritage Disaster Prevention Day Awards Ceremony’ was held on the 10th at the National Palace Museum of Korea, where Busan City and Jeonbuk Province were awarded institutional commendations among local governments and related organizations nationwide.
In particular, Busan City received high praise for steadily promoting various policies in the field of cultural heritage disaster safety in 2022.
Detailed policies in the city’s cultural heritage disaster safety sector include ▲conducting joint training with related organizations to enhance disaster management response capabilities for cultural heritage (13 sessions, 172 participants from 25 organizations) ▲continuing national and city-designated cultural heritage disaster safety management projects (4 projects, 831 million KRW) ▲immediate action on emergency cultural heritage repair projects (2 cases, 46 million KRW) ▲regular disaster safety education (5 sessions, 100 participants) ▲holding communication and meetings with cultural heritage disaster safety stakeholders.
Mayor Park Hyung-jun stated, “This institutional commendation is a valuable result of our city’s diligent efforts to protect cultural heritage,” adding, “We will manage more thoroughly to ensure that our city’s precious cultural assets are well preserved and not damaged from disaster safety by improving manuals for on-site response to cultural heritage facility accidents.”
