Expansion of Safety Education at Seongdong-gu Life Safety Learning Center

Seongdong-gu Life Safety Learning Center Expands Safety Education... Increasing Participants per Session and Expanding Mobile Safety Experience to 14 Sessions

Comprehensive Safety Education Covering CPR, AED Usage, Heimlich Maneuver, and Experience-Based Training Including Earthquake, Ship Escape, and Survival Swimming

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jung Won-oh) announced that the Seongdong Life Safety Learning Center, a comprehensive safety experience facility, will be expanded this year to provide more safety education opportunities to residents.

The Seongdong Life Safety Learning Center is the first experiential safety education facility established by a Seoul autonomous district, designed to allow residents to personally experience and learn how to actively respond to disaster situations and protect themselves from various accidents that may occur in daily life.

At the Learning Center, safety education programs are offered to prepare for life-threatening emergencies such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), automated external defibrillator (AED) usage, and the Heimlich maneuver, as well as to handle everyday risks like elevator escape. Additionally, experiential education programs for natural disasters such as earthquakes and ship escape are operated year-round.

This year, the number of participants per session for individual education will be increased from 15 to 20, and legally mandated education sessions for childcare teachers, AED managers, and safety-related workers will be expanded from 60 to 85 sessions.

The mobile safety experience education, which brings safety training to various locations, will be expanded from 5 to 14 sessions, and summer water safety education including survival swimming will also be expanded to a total of 14 sessions. Furthermore, the disaster safety conference for Seongdong-gu residents will be held three times this year, continuing from last year, providing diverse information.

The programs are segmented by target groups including children under 7 years old, elementary, middle, and high school students, adults, companies, and private organizations, enhancing the effectiveness of education through customized methods tailored to age and characteristics.

Although the number of visitors decreased somewhat last year due to COVID-19, a focus on non-face-to-face lectures resulted in a total of 7,016 people completing the education. At the end of last year, when social interest in safety increased due to incidents such as the Itaewon tragedy, the program was expanded considering the heightened demand for safety education among residents.

For inquiries about education applications and related matters, detailed information can be obtained by visiting the Seongdong Life Safety Learning Center website or contacting the Safety Management Division of Seongdong-gu Office by phone.

Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, stated, “Safety is the most fundamental and core element that a city must have,” and added, “We consider the Seongdong Life Safety Learning Center as a minimum device to protect the lives and safety of residents and will spare no effort in providing various support.”
