Jeon Seong-su, Seocho-gu Mayor: “We Will Continue to Provide Careful and Prompt Support to Ensure No Neighbor Is Left Behind”

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Amid unprecedented cold waves and soaring heating costs, local governments are providing heating cost support to ease the economic burden on vulnerable groups. Seocho-gu is stepping up with additional heating cost assistance to ensure a safe winter for these residents.

Seocho-gu (Mayor Jeon Seong-su) provided 100,000 KRW in heating cost support to 1,000 vulnerable households last month and has decided to offer a second round of heating cost support. The funds for heating cost assistance come from neighbor-helping donations sincerely collected from residents and businesses.

In this round, the district will provide 50,000 KRW per household to 1,000 vulnerable households, including basic livelihood security recipients and low-income groups, totaling 50 million KRW. The district has received recommendations from local community centers and plans to distribute the heating cost support on the 16th.

Additionally, heating costs for welfare facilities frequently used by seniors, disabled persons, and children from vulnerable groups will also receive extra support. The district will invest a total of approximately 140 million KRW from national, city, and district funds.

The targeted facilities include 88 locations such as disability welfare centers, senior citizen centers, comprehensive social welfare centers, and local children’s centers within the district.

Moreover, through the ‘Seoripul Care SOS’ service, the district is making efforts to help vulnerable groups stay healthy during winter by providing ▲fuel cost support such as overdue utility fees ▲heating supplies including winter blankets, heated mats, and cold-weather clothing ▲and delivering ‘nutrition packages’ to children at local children’s centers.

Seocho-gu Mayor Jeon Seong-su said, “I hope this support can provide some relief to vulnerable groups who have faced increased economic burdens due to the soaring heating costs. We will continue to carefully and promptly provide support to ensure no neighbor around us is left behind.”
