Appointment of Kim Kyung-wook as the New CEO of Dongdaemun Cultural Foundation

Appointment of Kim Kyung-wook as the New CEO of Dongdaemun Cultural Foundation Dongdaemun-gu Mayor Lee Pil-hyung (also Chairman of Dongdaemun Cultural Foundation, photo left) is taking a commemorative photo with Kim Kyung-wook, the new CEO of Dongdaemun Cultural Foundation.

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Dongdaemun Cultural Foundation (Chairman Ilhyung Lee) announced that Kim Kyungwook was appointed as the new CEO as of the 10th and held a CEO appointment ceremony at 9 a.m.


CEO Kim Kyungwook has worked as a cultural administration expert for about 27 years, serving as a member of the Daewoo Foundation, Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture, International Director of the Korean Cultural Economics Association, Director of the Korean Arts Management Association, Senior Specialist of the Culture, Sports and Tourism Committee of the Seoul Metropolitan Council, and Director of the Sejong City Cultural Foundation.


Additionally, as a Culture, Sports and Tourism Specialist of the Seoul Metropolitan Council, he received the Seoul Mayor’s Award and has published numerous books related to cultural policy, including "Cultural Policy and Fundraising" and "Cultural Foundations."


The term of the new CEO Kim Kyungwook is from February 10, 2023, to February 9, 2025.


Ilhyung Lee, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu (also Chairman of Dongdaemun Cultural Foundation), said during a conversation with the new CEO and foundation staff after the appointment ceremony, “The first place I visited after becoming mayor was Seonnongdan, where the Dongdaemun Cultural Foundation is located. This place is home to a 500-year-old fragrant tree and breathes the history and tradition of Dongdaemun. I hope the Dongdaemun Cultural Foundation will take on the role of discovering the most Dongdaemun-like spirit contained in Seonnongdan and weaving it into culture.”


He also urged, “I hope the new CEO and the staff of Dongdaemun Cultural Foundation will become one team, take ownership, and strive for differentiated cultural and artistic development.”


New CEO Kim Kyungwook said, “I feel the heavy responsibility of taking on the important task of embodying the tradition and history of Dongdaemun-gu contained in Seonnongdan through culture, but I will do my best for the development of the district’s culture and arts.” He added, “Based on my expertise and practical experience in cultural arts management, I will do my utmost to ensure that residents receive better cultural benefits.”
