Possibility of Korea-Japan Foreign Ministers Meeting in Germany on 18th... "Discussion on Forced Labor" Minister of Foreign Affairs Park Jin

[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dong-hyun] Foreign ministers of South Korea and Japan are reported by foreign media to possibly meet at the Munich Security Conference in Germany from the 17th to the 19th.

Kyodo News reported on the 10th, citing a Japanese government official, that Japanese Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi is coordinating a meeting with South Korean Foreign Minister Park Jin on the 18th during his attendance at the Munich Security Conference in Germany.

The foreign ministers of South Korea and Japan are expected to discuss solutions to the issue of compensation for forced labor during the Japanese colonial period.

President Yoon Suk-yeol and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida agreed at the Cambodia Phnom Penh summit last November to consult for an early resolution of the forced labor issue. Since then, both countries have continued discussions through various channels.

Meanwhile, South Korea, the United States, and Japan are also expected to discuss the forced labor issue at the 12th Deputy Foreign Ministers' Meeting to be held in Washington DC, USA, on the 13th.
