Awarding Execution Rights and Chief Planner Position to the Best Team
[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Wanyong] Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) announced on the 10th that it will conduct an international competition for the basic urban plan of the Gwangmyeong-Siheung public housing district. The Gwangmyeong-Siheung district, a new town with an area of 12.71 million square meters, was designated as a district last November.
This competition was promoted to receive ideas for the basic urban plan and three-dimensional urban spatial plans for some areas from private experts, aiming to create a city where local residents can live well with jobs, transportation, environment, and housing.
In particular, considering the geographical characteristics of the Gwangmyeong-Siheung district spanning two local governments, the theme is “A symbiotic city of coexistence and mutual growth.”
To derive diverse opinions and world-class creative urban development ideas, the competition is held internationally to allow participation from overseas firms. The scope of the competition and the benefits for winners have been greatly expanded to encourage participation from specialized firms in various fields such as urban planning, architecture, and landscaping.
The grand prize winner will be granted the right to perform the basic planning service for the Gwangmyeong-Siheung district, worth approximately 16.9 billion KRW, and the status of Master Planner to ensure consistent establishment of land use plans and district unit plans.
Starting with the announcement on the 10th, LH plans to hold an on-site briefing session at the LH Southern Gyeonggi Regional Headquarters on Friday the 17th. Applications for participation in the competition are accepted until 5 p.m. on the 20th, and submissions will be received on April 20th, with winners announced at the end of April.
LH plans to actively proceed with the district planning-related services starting with this competition, aiming for district plan approval in 2024, groundbreaking in 2025, and sequential supply of about 70,000 housing units from 2027.
Shin Kyungcheol, Head of LH’s National Land and Urban Development Headquarters, said, “The Gwangmyeong-Siheung district has excellent accessibility to Seoul and will establish itself as a hub city in the southwestern metropolitan area. LH will do its best to ensure that high-quality housing within the metropolitan area is supplied in a timely manner through transparent and swift project implementation.”
