[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] On the 9th at 3 p.m., Gijang-gun, Busan, signed a business agreement for the operation of the Baseball Center at the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) in Seoul.
The event, hosted by the KBO, was attended by Jeong Jong-bok, Gijang-gun governor, KBO president Heo Gu-yeon, as well as Choi Jae-hyung, Boeun-gun governor, and Kim Myung-gi, Hoengseong-gun governor, who were also selected as Baseball Centers (hereinafter Baseball Center), and they signed the Baseball Center operation agreement.
Jung Jong-bok, the head of Gijang County (first from the right), is signing a business agreement for the operation of the KBO Baseball Center and taking a commemorative photo.
This agreement is a follow-up measure after Gijang-gun was finally selected as a Baseball Center last December, focusing on infrastructure construction for the Baseball Center and business cooperation for baseball-related events and program operations jointly hosted with the KBO.
Through this agreement, Gijang-gun will build various baseball infrastructures, and the KBO will actively utilize the baseball infrastructure built by Gijang-gun to conduct various baseball-related competitions, training, education, and research programs.
The Gijang-gun Baseball Theme Park (located in Dongbaek-ri, Ilgwang-eup), where the Baseball Center will be established, currently operates four standard baseball fields, one little league baseball field, and one softball field. Indoor baseball practice facilities, a baseball experience center (scheduled for 2024), a youth hostel (scheduled for 2026), and the Korea Baseball Hall of Fame (scheduled for 2026) will be constructed sequentially.
The Baseball Theme Park has hosted world and national-scale baseball tournaments such as the U-18 World Youth Baseball Championship and the U-15 National Youth Baseball Championship, and is also gaining attention as a training ground for professional and amateur baseball teams.
With the addition of these baseball-related facilities, the Gijang-gun Baseball Theme Park will become the largest comprehensive baseball infrastructure in Korea in name and reality.
Governor Jeong Jong-bok said, “Through this Baseball Center agreement, the Baseball Theme Park being developed in our county is expected to become an international baseball mecca leading baseball development beyond Korea,” adding, “We will work closely with the KBO to ensure the successful operation of the Baseball Center for regional economic revitalization and the development of Korean baseball.”
