[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Jo] On the 9th, Yoon Hee-geun, Commissioner of the National Police Agency, held a meeting at Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST) to discuss collaboration on scientific policing using artificial intelligence (AI).
At the meeting, Commissioner Yoon stated, "Artificial intelligence is a key technology necessary to transform the police organization from a manpower-centered system to a system-centered one," and requested, "Please actively participate so that UNIST's AI research and development and capabilities can be utilized in policing."
Commissioner Yoon also promised support for institutional improvements and infrastructure development for the commercialization of Urban Air Mobility (UAM). UAM is a transportation system that operates in urban airspace using aircraft capable of vertical takeoff and landing at altitudes between 300 and 600 meters. UNIST is developing a prototype personal aircraft in line with the government's commercialization policy.
Meanwhile, on the same day in the morning, Commissioner Yoon visited the Ulsan Nambu Police Station and promoted two police officers from the Ulsan Nambu Police Station by one rank for arresting construction union leaders who committed illegal acts at construction sites.
