Performing Fine Dust Prevention Monitoring and Guidance Inspections
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] Gwangyang City, Jeollanam-do announced on the 9th that it officially began environmental monitoring activities to prevent illegal fine dust emissions starting from the 1st.
Environmental monitors are deployed to the field after undergoing preliminary education and practical training. They visit dust-generating sites in the construction phase in advance to provide guidance on precautions and compliance, and are expected to contribute to work efficiency by sharing real-time information when violations are found.

The five monitors will carry out tasks until the end of December 2023, including ▲patrolling around fine dust emission sources ▲responding on-site to complaints ▲supporting administrative inspections during high fine dust concentration events ▲providing administrative support for pollution source management ▲and other fine dust prevention monitoring duties tailored to Gwangyang City's circumstances.
As large-scale projects such as residential land development, industrial complex development, and apartment construction are actively underway, complaints frequently occur. It is expected that the monitors’ continuous activities will contribute to providing public services by resolving complaints related to fine dust emissions.
Kim Jae-hee, Director of the Environment Division, stated, "Environmental monitors will establish a constant monitoring system focusing on industrial complex areas and construction sites with high fine dust concentrations," adding, "We expect to eliminate blind spots of illegal fine dust emissions by strengthening on-site administrative capabilities."
Meanwhile, as a result of operating the environmental monitoring team last year, the city inspected about 1,480 sites and detected 20 businesses violating standards.
