[Asia Economy Reporters Hyunju Lee and Youngwon Kim] Kim Do-eup, a member of the People Power Party and chairman of the National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee, stated on the 9th regarding the submission of the impeachment resolution against Minister of the Interior and Safety Lee Sang-min, "The President will have no choice but to leave the position of Minister of the Interior and Safety vacant, which is a gap in state affairs and a direct loss to the country," adding, "The vacancy period must be minimized."

At a meeting with reporters at the National Assembly on the same day, Chairman Kim said, "I hope the adjudication process will be conducted swiftly by the Constitutional Court."

At 10 a.m. that day, Chairman Kim delegated Senior Specialist Jeong Seong-hee of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee to submit the impeachment resolution to the Constitutional Court. This marked the official start of the impeachment procedure against Minister Lee.

Chairman Kim said, "The contents of the impeachment opinion are what the Democratic Party of Korea has always claimed, and as the public has seen openly, it was confirmed to be no more and no less than the content from the state audit."

When the impeachment motion against a Cabinet member is passed and sent to the Constitutional Court, the chairman of the National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee serves as the prosecutor. The prosecutor's role is to persuade the Constitutional Court justices of the necessity of impeachment, similar to a prosecutor in a criminal trial.

He refrained from commenting on the composition of the legal team. Chairman Kim said, "According to usual practice, the first hearing date will be set and probably notified to me," adding, "Since there is some time, I will consider the composition of the legal team."
