[Namwon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Jeong Young-gwon] Namwon City, Jeonbuk Province, announced on the 8th that it successfully concluded the ‘2023 Namwon FAI World Drone Racing Championship Briefing Session’ held on the 7th.
The briefing session, attended by over 600 citizens, was the first opportunity to explain the 2023 Namwon FAI World Drone Racing Championship scheduled to be held from October 6 to 9 at Chunhyanggol Sports Park to the citizens.

Along with the briefing session, as a pre-event, the Namwon Drone Association and Jirisan Drone Safety Rescue Team held exhibitions of racing and industrial drones and demonstrated the drone video control system, providing an opportunity to help citizens better understand the somewhat unfamiliar drone racing and drones.
The 2023 Namwon FAI World Drone Racing Championship to be held in October is the most prestigious drone-related competition organized by the FAI (F?d?ration A?ronautique Internationale), and Namwon City is the first in Korea to host it.
To enrich the event, the city will simultaneously hold the ‘Namwon International Future Air Mobility & Drone Leisure Sports Expo,’ demonstrating its commitment to fostering Namwon’s future aviation industry as well as the drone racing competition.
To offer various attractions, additional drone-related competitions such as drone soccer, drone clash, national drone contests, and drone photo contests will be held, along with experiential events like hot air balloon rides and drone flying experiences for citizens visiting to enjoy the event.
Through hosting the most prestigious FAI drone sports competition, the city aims to highlight its ambition to become a hub for the aviation industry and leisure, striving to attract related companies, athletes, and tourists, and plans to establish Namwon as a foothold for the aviation leisure industry where ordinary citizens can easily enjoy drones in their daily lives.
Additionally, the city shared the results of the research project on the establishment of the Namwon aviation industry (drone·UAM) cluster with citizens.
Citizens viewed a video showcasing the changes brought by the drone and UAM (Urban Air Mobility) industries and were presented with goals and detailed strategic tasks to develop these into future new growth industries.
The city plans to secure future growth by creating a Namwon-style aviation industry business model utilizing optimal conditions such as diverse geographical features, safe airspace, and well-established transportation infrastructure.
Lee Soon-taek, Deputy Mayor of Namwon City, said, “I hope the citizen briefing session brought the drone racing competition and expo closer to the citizens,” and added, “We ask for active participation and interest from citizens to ensure the successful hosting of the event.”
