Protecting Rural Living Environments from Fine Dust and Odors
[Muan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Oh Hwan-joo] Muan-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Kim San) is conducting prevention publicity, guidance, and crackdown on illegal burning activities to protect the rural living environment from fine dust and odors.
According to the county on the 8th, until the end of March, they will intensively patrol the 9 towns and townships to strengthen the crackdown on illegal burning, and impose fines of up to 1 million KRW on violators if illegal activities are detected.
The focused guidance and crackdown include cases where household waste or agricultural by-products are piled up or suspected to be burned, places showing traces of burning, or locations with waste drums presumed to be used for burning.
Governor Kim San said, “In rural areas, many people are unaware that burning activities are illegal,” adding, “We ask residents for active participation to prevent air pollution and large fire damage.”
Meanwhile, burning waste at unauthorized or unapproved facilities or outdoors is prohibited, and burning business waste can result in imprisonment of up to 7 years or fines up to 70 million KRW.
