BPA Installs Pedestrian Safety Structures at the East Side of Gamcheon Port Public Wharf

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] Busan Port Authority (BPA) has installed safety structures to prevent accidents involving workers while walking on the safety passage of the east side public pier at Gamcheon Port.

To secure a safe walkway, BPA installed about 300 lane control posts and 30 U-shaped bollards along a 2.7 km section adjacent to the security fence on the east pier.

To prevent accidents such as vehicle collisions during nighttime walking by pier users, 14 passage guide signs and 2 speed limit signs indicating 20 km/h were also installed.

Additionally, 37 new guide signs were installed near 40 crosswalks around Gamcheon Port, created last December, to help drivers and pedestrians easily recognize the crosswalks.

BPA stated that since the locations were selected by actively reflecting the opinions of pier workers and port security personnel during the installation of safety structures, a high level of satisfaction is expected on site.

Kang Jun-seok, President of BPA, said, “The east pier of Gamcheon Port has a high risk of accidents because many workers, vehicles, and equipment are mixed together due to the manual handling of cargo,” and added, “We will continue to strengthen efforts to improve facilities for worker safety.”
